Alive and (all kinds of) Kicking

Both kids were inducted to swimming lessons at 6 months so they've been kicking in the water for most of their lives.  This year, they both made some amazing progress!  Both children, switched swim programs and are now swimming at a local high school, whose program is geared toward competitive swimming.  Caedmon made the switch in January and Libby entered the program in July.  The swim program has 10 levels.  Libby is currently a level 4 and in November, Caedmon graduated from the learn to swim program and joined the stroke team, which is a bridge between lessons and swim team.

Besides, kicking in the water, Caedmon began kicking on a karate mat in March.  He began Kenpo Karate lessons in the "Lil Dragons" program, which is geared to 4 to 6 year olds.  He enjoys it a lot.  We are pleased with the discipline, direction following and respect that it requires.  This picture shows him as a yellow belt but he has since graduated two more belts to a purple belt.

Both kids also tried their hands feet at kicking a soccer ball.  Libby participated in the Soccer Tots program during the spring.  She enjoyed learning some basic soccer skills.  Caedmon joined a soccer team for its fall season.  We decided to try it out because a few of his friends were, but it turned out the program was bigger than we ever could have imagined, and we were lucky to even play a game against his friends.  It was an interesting season.  The coach of his team, The Eagles, was fantastic and a real blessing as the kids were trying to understand the concept of the game, let alone play it.  For the first 4 years of their lives we told them to share and now, suddenly we're telling them to take the ball!  Caedmon was not a fan of all of the running.  We thought that he had built some good stamina in the pool, but he did not translate his swimming to the running.  He finally rallied in the last game and decided that he did enjoy the sport.

I guess there is no kicking involved in the one other sport we tried, but we'll tack it on anyway.  After watching the Olympics last winter, Caedmon decided he wanted to learn to ice skate.  He took weekly lessons from March through August and made some great progress.

The Chang kids had a busy year of developing their athletic prowess.  We're glad that both of them enjoy being active and we're looking forward to seeing what other sports they try out and which, they decide to pursue.  Throughout each of their endeavors, we have been encouraging them with "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus."  (Colossians 3:17)  As long as they are doing their best for the Lord, we're proud of them!
