Libby: 9.5 Months

It is amazing to think that Libby will be celebrating her 1st birthday in just a few more months. She has grown and changed so much over the past year and we know that the next 2 months will bring even greater change! Our infant has become a baby and that baby is on her way to becoming a toddler.

Libby has brought so much joy to our household. As she has grown, she has become much more pleasant and especially in recent weeks is so full of smiles and laughter. When she smiles, she does it with her whole face. Oft times, it is a wide open smiling mouth. Just recently she has learned to wave and she loves to practice! Whenever she awakes from a nap and I bring her downstairs, she looks for Tom or Caedmon and smiles and waves at them. She also likes to wave bye-bye and it has become part of her bedtime routine to wave goodbye to her brother and dad. On Easter Sunday, Tom brought Libby into the church after parking the car and he said she was waving at everyone she saw. The wave is most often accompanied with a big smile and lots of exuberance. She makes me smile when I see her doing it!

Libby likes to be on the move, but she does things her own way. For a long time, she found rolling to be an effective means of movement. For the past few months she has switched to an army crawl. She's quite fast and coordinated on her elbows and knees. I keep waiting for her to realize that a traditional crawl is much more effective but she's happy with her current mode of transportation. She's trying to get used to the hands and knees routine. We've seen her get up there once or twice but for now she's decided her way works. We've fenced her in to the living room area because as ineffective as her way seems to us, she sure can move! When she sees something she wants, there is no stopping her!

I'm very thankful that our girl is a great eater and sleeper. She is now sleeping 10-11 hours each night. She continues to like an early bedtime just like her brother. She is in bed by 6 most nights and sleeps until 4:30 or 5 most days. Then, I nurse her and she stays in bed until 6:30 or so. Nursing continues to go well. I was only able to nurse Caedmon for less than 6 months so this is a huge blessing to me. I did have some hesitations when I realized that Libby is not a fan of the bottle. I thought we might really have a tough time weaning, but she's currently down to 3 nursing sessions a day and has been a trooper when I have dropped back. It's probably been made easier by the fact that she LOVES to eat. She only has one tooth which has only appeared in the past few days but she makes the most of that tooth! She will try anything and I really can't think of anything that she hasn't liked. Sometimes I feel like I can't keep up with giving her food fast enough. For as petite as she is, she can shovel it in! (At 9 months, Miss L was a mere 15 pounds 13 ounces and 26.5 inches. )

She is also a very curious little girl. She loves to explore her little gated play area and look at all of the different toys, especially if they belong to Caedmon. Libby began swim lessons a few months ago and she LOVES the water. Last week, she was putting her face in the water of her own accord...and she thought it was a great game! She also likes to be outside. Water and sunshine seem to be two things that always make her smile...even if she is in a foul mood.
