Our Latest Travel Adventure...

On one of our first dates, Tom took me to see the musical 42nd Street. In it, one of the characters talks about having a "grand, Grand, GRAND adventure." In the early days of our courtship, this became a theme for us. We would often talk about the grand, Grand, GRAND adventure our life together would be. Although we may occasionally say the word "grand" with a hint of sarcasm, our life together is definitely an adventure! Our most recent adventure of the traveling sort took us only halfway across the US so don't get too excited. There will be no dreamy photos of sandy beaches and blue oceans in this post. Alas, we did spend a few days with family, which will also be a treasured memory in the future.

Tom had a week of vacation during the beginning of March and while we considered the notion of flying off to some exotic locale we came to the conclusion that March is not all that pleasant weather-wise in a good bit of the world. Also, there were still a few important family members who had yet to meet Miss L and a few more who hadn't seen either of our lovely offspring for a while. Thus, we hopped a plane to Pennsylvania with plans to take a midnight drive south to the Carolinas to visit Tom's family.

It was Tom's family in South Carolina who had yet to meet our little lady. We had been trying to arrange a trip there for some time but the logistics continually stumped us. Tickets between TX and SC were a little pricey not to mention the fact that it would involve renting a car and lugging car seats with us...all for a weekend trip. Finally, we decided that if we rolled the trip into a visit to PA, we could borrow my parents' car and make a 9 hour trek for the visit. My parents also have car seats for the kids and we could borrow their pack n play and high chair for the baby girl. Much easier and less stressful than any other option...or so we thought!

We arrived at my parents' house on Friday afternoon with plans to begin our journey late that evening. Everything seemed to be falling easily into place as my dad and Tom packed the car and we settled in for our drive. However, Libby quickly realized that she was supposed to be in her bed sleeping and this was NOT her bed. She proceeded to cry for a solid hour (or was it two?). Two hours into the drive, Tom was contemplating a u-turn to head back to my parents' house. Libby finally gave in to sleep. 5 hours into the trip as we both were feeling quite sleepy, the thought of turning around surfaced again but we decided to press on.

We arrived at the home of Tom's family (grandma, aunts and dad) early Saturday morning. They were surprised and excited to see us! Tom loves to give surprises so we hadn't really informed them of our plan to visit. Nothing like having a family of four show up on your doorstep at 7:30 am! As Tom was unloading the car, I sat down on the couch, trying to settle the kids into their new surroundings. The Weather Channel was on the TV and I caught a phrase "Weather Advisory." As I continued to listen, the weather forecaster announced that there was a winter storm warning for the entire Eastern Seaboard from Sunday through Monday. Our plan had been to make our return trip to Pennsylvania on Sunday night. Alas, once Tom heard the warning, we made a quick decision to shorten our stay. Yes, we began our drive back only 11 hours later! 19 hours of driving in 30 hours of time. Now that's an adventure!

Alas, Tom's family was so excited that we came to visit them. The kids had a lot of fun and despite not wanting to get into a car again for a long, long time, we were happy to bring some joy to them! Here are some pictures of our short time there:
